Meis was correct, after the rigs are gone the deer and elk love the drill pads, pipeline routes and powerline right of ways due to the grasses and vegitation coming up. if you disagree perhaps you should get out more!

Clearing way for a pipeline through a roadless area isn't even in the same ballpark as ski area expansion. Ever been up to a 'revegatated' area? If industry was committed to 'doing it right' we wouldn't have all the problems that we're seeing in western Colorado. Wasteicle in Parachute Creek, waste dumps leaking, illegal dumping in the river. It's time we slowed down and take account of what we're losing in the name of profits.

Clearing a well pad, drilling, and revegatating the area pales in comparison to the the ski companies clear cutting thousands of acres of national forest. What is the problem here?

Interesting article in today's Sentinel about the Oil and Gas barons spending tens of millions to defeat a severance tax increase in California that people supported before their specious media fear campaign began, and how we can look forward to the same barrage this fall if such a proposed increase makes it to the ballot. So while they make billions in quarterly profits, they are only willing to spend it to defeat attempts to minimally finance alternative fuels rather than putting any fraction of it into promoting 21st century energy sources. They are despicably unpatriotic modern-day Luddites, willing to delay new technology as long as possible to preserve their monopoly, no matter what the cost.

The natural gas industry seems like a wealthy adolescent, who when challenged to behave in any socially redeemable manor, goes into a significant pout. They have now succeeded in removing all barriers to selling their locally developed gas, and therefore receiving nationwide pricing. Why they continue to threaten to go elsewhere to develop other basins if we do not shut up and let them have what they want, seems a bit of a tantrum, especially in time of national energy crisis.

YAY ON NEW BLOG! PIPELINE VENTING VIDEO and BIG QUESTION MARK ON RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS

Brenda and crew at WCC - I love the new blog and hope it will prove to be a useful communications tool for the on-line community striving to better protect the natural beauty and integrity of Colorado!

Congratulations and thanks!

I wanted to let folks know that we had a pipeline "venting" event occur out here on the 29th.

There is some question as to whether radioactive materials are used by this industry during the construction and weld-testing of pipelines and, or course, if they are used, we'd like to know IF they were used in this case and if so, whether they spewed out over the valley and we were exposed to them.

I have had no follow-up to this event, but I have a 20 second video clip I've posted on our own blog as we track the development of 40 + wells in our area.

It's pretty scary-looking if anyone wants to check it out. We had no warning of this event and we thought it was a well that had blown just over the ridge!

PS - sorry the blog is so behind - I'm trying to get it caught up this week.

Looks like I'm way too late for a T-shirt, and my old WCC shirt is falling apart! Congrats on this new step. Keep up the good work. Seeing the other posts got me to write Sen. Salazar on his Dominguez-Escalante bill.

Cheers!

Way to go!!
This is exciting news for those of us in in the outskirts that aren't always able to make it to regular meetings and events.
(I wear size small/med.!!)
This gave me great incentive to visit your website, too. It looks great and is very informative without being too, you know...word-y.
Congrats on all your hard work!
